Grants Consultants

CLA’s Grants Support Team is a service of CLA’s Office of the Associate Dean for Faculty and Research. The team’s goal is to help faculty develop effective, fundable grant proposals and to help Principal Investigators and Department Administrators navigate through the University grants submission process.

Funding Searches – We can…

  • Work with faculty and collaborative groups to identify funding needs.
  • Help identify suitable internal University of Minnesota funding opportunities.
  • Help identify potential external sponsors through internet and foundation database searches for relevant grant opportunities.
  • Assist in reviewing grant application guidelines and in evaluating sponsor criteria in order to identify the most appropriate funding programs.
  • Apprise you of opportunities in your research area.

Proposal Development – We can…

  • Help create a realistic work plan and timeline for proposal development.
  • Coordinate communication among members of collaborative groups.
  • Advise faculty as they develop proposals for internal or external programs and provide substantive feedback to ensure effective presentation of the project in all sections of the proposal: Abstract, Project Description, Methods, Significance, Outcomes, and Assessment.
  • Assist in identifying budgetary needs and developing proposal budgets.
  • Assist in identifying required supporting materials (Institutional Review Board approval, letters of support, etc.).
  • Review proposals to make sure they address all the sponsor’s requirements.
  • Review proposals for compliance with Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) requirements.
  • Copyedit the final drafts.

Proposal Submission – We can…

  • Advise faculty on using the Electronic Grants Management System (EGMS).
  • Advise faculty on using the Proposal Routing Form (PRF) to obtain required departmental, CLA, and SPA approval.
  • Advise faculty on using the grants.gov system to submit federal proposals.
