Individual PI Timeline
Six to 12 months out
- Identify funding sources & deadlines
- (Grants consultants can help with this step)
- Think about project
- Talk with program officers
- Start to develop proposal strategy & argument
Three (3) months from deadline
- Meet with grants consultant
- Bring funding announcement to consultant
- Consultant: develops work plan & schedule with you
- PI/administrator: Prepares bio
- PI: Identifies writers of letters of support
Ten weeks to four weeks before deadline
- PI: Develops proposal narrative, solicits comments from colleagues
- PI: Develops budget with help from grants consultants, departmental accountant, &/or grants management coordinator
- PI: Identifies appendices, if any
- Consultant: Assembles appendices, letters of support
- PI, Departmental Administrator, or consultant: Sets up PRF
- Grants Management Coordinator (Gayle Anderson): Assists with budget development
Seven to two weeks before deadline
- Consultant: Edits, advises, revises narrative
- Grants Management Coordinator: Reviews budget
- Consultant: does final review of entire proposal
Seven to ten business days before deadline
- Route PRF—Order x500 numbers as follows:
- PI
- Departmental chair
- Grants Management Coordinator Gayle Anderson
- Associate Dean for Research, Jo-Ida Hansen
One week before deadline
- PI/administrative help: Proposal assembly
Five days before deadline
- PI/administrative help: Deliver full proposal to SPA
- If you submit through grants.gov, stay in touch for 2 days
